Pumpkins, Pumpkin Patch and Fall Folage

When living in the mid-west, Autumn usually means a yearly trek to a local pumpkin patch.  This year we decided to try a new place; one not so overly crowded yet affordable and still fairly close to home with enough activities for the kids.

We landed on The Orchard and Company in Plain City, Ohio.  It was our first time we had visited this place and we were nicely impressed.

We choose an early arrival on a Saturday; where the weather was to be sunny and the farenheit was climbing.  And to make the day even that more enjoyable, we went with two other family friends to share in the laughter.  Our only rule was to have fun …

After buying our reasonably priced pass ($8 each – smiles included), the kids were off to their first adventure.  First, they tried the mini-kid zip line.

{all smiles… } After zip-lining, it was time to climb some hay bales to play a little King of the Hay Bale game. After all, it is not a true pumpkin patch day until someone wins the King of hay bale hill.

{even more smiles…. }  As they ran past the hay bales to the next adventure, it was my kiddo that decided to stop and try out the pumpkins for size and weight.  Apparently, if one said kiddo can lift and carry a pumpkin, then that pumpkin is not big enough.  after all, we were not leaving the pumpkin patch without the perfect pumpkin.  The selection was average ranging in price from $3 for a small pumpkin to $9 for a large.

 

Next up on the list of fun things to do (also included with the pass) was the pedal car track.  {I think he actually hit speeds of 60 M.P.H.   :- just kidding}

Then there was the pillow jump and the corn pit and the moo moo express which were all included with the pass.

And even though there was major threats and scare tactics to my kiddo forcing him to allow his picture to be taken throughout the entire day, he was obviously not impressed with his consequences for choosing to defy me.  So I took his picture anyway – so there!

Two other activities we did participate in (at an additional $2 charge per person) was the hay ride and fishing.  While both were five minutes of additional fun, probably could have been included in the overall cost.  However to partake in the Scarecrow contest, you really had to ride the wagon to view all the scarecrows.

Being that we were on a true working farm, there were animals such as cows, and baby pigs, and billy goats, and bunnies to name a few.  We decided to walk over and say hello to the cows in the pasture and they decided to send in the welcoming committee.

As a matter of fact, they were so excited to see us, one was slobbering over our company.

After it was all said and done, we spent all afternoon at The Orchard and Company, with great company, had lunch at the cafe on site, bought three medium size pumpkins, rode every ride 100x over, was licked by a giant cow tongue, had more smilies than I could count and left with a lifetime of memories!

So while I was able to take many great pictures to capture our fun, I only wish I had super-sonic hearing to actually know what these two were talking about…. or maybe they just weren’t saying anything!  Maybe the day just spoke for itself.
