During 2020, the pandemic played havoc on the world, but the quilters and crafters settled in, pulled out their stash scrap fabrics and got to work. I was no different. I was watching YouTube on the daily and loving all the new scrappy tutorials available. When I came across this video from Lori Holt, I knew this quilt was in my future. I loved her simplicity and ease of this pattern; Lori Holt with Bee in My Bonnet talked about her Sew my Stash #10 series. I love all her ideas for fabric stash, and her lovely sewing room; her creativity is contagious.
No Rules Scrappy Quilting
One of her video tutorials was titled the Sew Your Stash Series #10 – Criss Cross Star Quilt Block. I loved all the freedom for fabric and color selections. As I have said many times, the great thing about creating scrappy quilts are the freedom; there are no rules only the rules you the quilter impose. The sky is the limit.
I especially liked the star in this pattern is free floated within the block so my star points could be a little less than perfect but still look beautiful. I began pulling out my color coordinated fabrics for similar hue stars. I then set time aside to cut my needs squares and used them as leaders and enders. For more about leaders and enders, check out this blog post here.

Then, once I had my colors sorted and fabrics cut, I created a few stars. WoW! I loved how they turned out! And they were so easy.
Punch of Color
This quilt came along so easy and fast using the leader and ender method and before I knew it, I had enough blocks to begin the top construction. Once I had my blocks on my design wall in the order I liked, I began to stitch them together.
I love the colorful layout of all the scrappy stars, but still felt the quilt need a punch of color. I settled on this 3″ strip of green fabric (that was in my stash pile) for the effect I was looking for. I think it makes the quilt. Needless to say, I was excited about this beautiful scrappy star quilt not to mention making a small dent in my stash that I just need to get her to the quilter. I just love how this quilt came together with all the pops of colors and makes the perfect lap quilt on a chilly spring day.
I must say (as I often do), this is one of my favorites quilts. Scrappiness is such happiness!
