Easy Lemon/Orange/Peppermint Sugar Body Scrub for Christmas|Sharon the Moments blog

Just Two Days before Christmas, I had kicked my feet up relaxing and enjoying the next forty-eight hours until christmas Day.  The laundry was done, the grocery shopping complete, the house cleaned and presents wrapped. So I settled in to read a few frequent blogs and came across this super easy Lemon Sugar Scrub at 2 Sisters & and Blog by Angie Keiser and her sister.

The original recipe was designated as Mother’s Day gifts, but after reading, I thought just about any Holiday would work by changing up the scent. So I set off to create the last-minute secret Christmas gift for all the women in my life.

The recipe originally called for Olive Oil, then swapped out Safflower Oil.  I found Safflower Oil in the local grocery store for about $6 a bottle.  Not sure how much I needed, I purchased two bottles.  However, in the future when not on such a short time frame, I could purchase a larger bottle at the local wholesale store.  In addition, either baby oil or a light sesame oil could also be swapped out for the Oil ingredient for a more cost-effective gift.

The other simple ingredients included white sugar, lemon juice and the scented extract purchased at the grocery store in the baking isle {ok… so essential oils might have worked better, but as I mentioned …. it was just two days until Christmas}.  I also had the food coloring handy for just a hint of color.

Being the Christmas season, I choose the Peppermint extract for a more Christmas scent.  And Orange just plain sounded good for a sugar scrub.

I also purchased simple jelly canning jars on sale for about $10 for a set of twelve.  However, a simple clean tins could be used as well.

I started by added a little over half the white sugar into a large mixing bowl.  The I added the safflower oil until a very slushy mixture was formed.  Once I had the desired consistency, I added the peppermint extract for the first batch.  I added just one drop of the yellow food coloring.  {In the future I will look into another form of coloring the scrub so not too stain the skin when applying}.

My next batch was for the orange, adding a drop of the red and two drops of the yellow food coloring.  Being careful to not add to much coloring to the scrub.  I then added the extract for the desired scent.

My last batch was the lemon scent this time adding the lemon juice for the scent and one drop of the yellow food coloring.  Then mixing for the desired consistency.

Once each batch was complete, I filled each of the jars.  Then added labels provided in the package.  I attached a candy cane to the jar for an extra Christmas touch.  Depending on the season {and the time allotted}, this simple and delightful Sugar Scrub recipe can be tweaked for just the right occasion.
