Spring Break Visit to the National Museum of US Air Force

Recently, a friend and fellow blogger, Angie at 2 Sisters and a Blog posted about her family’s visit to Dayton to see the National US Air Force Museum.  I loved the images and all the history in the Museum so … we decided to visit during our Spring Break.

We had been several years ago, but seems I forgot a lot.  Or maybe just so much to see that I couldn’t take it all in.  Nonetheless, it was expansive and a really neat super cool museum!

The museum is set up to walk through in order of our flight history, telling a story and watching the evolution of aviation {say that 3x fast}.

And just when you are walking along, you need to remember to look UP as well; there are planes everywhere!

Planes, Trains and Planes and more incredible Planes … {Yep, I said trains}

One neat item I noticed is that many of the planes were given names (by their pilots and crew) and made to look like a shark or a hornet or a tiger or something fierce-looking!

I especially love the name of this plane!

And then there is this beautiful looking thing … and the aircraft is sort of neat looking too.

Then, following our self guided tour, it was time to board the shuttle bus to the hanger with the older (vintage) Air Force Ones.  To see these piece of American History, you must first sign up for the shuttle.  Since these seats go fast, it is strongly recommended to sign up for this one hour side excursion as soon as you enter the museum.

The shuttle is about a five-minute bus ride to the hanger and once inside is another self guided tour and all the pictures one can handle.

I was pretending my kiddo was President … he was less than amused by his over the top embarrassing mom calling out “Mr. President…. Mr. President” as he was exiting the aircraft.

I still say … Mr. President. Can you stop for a picture?

So, if ever in the area in Dayton, be sure to visit the museum and you too can pretend you are the president too.
